Tony buy the Duramax. While the Ford Super Duty is a good truck,I would steer clear of the new Powerstroke.Ford did it's normal release it to the public to early and let the public do the R&D again. If you really want the Ford I would wait a year or two to let them figure out the problems they have. The Duramax has proven to be both powerful and reliable. You can keep your stable of rides all GM too.Ask Todd (Reckless) how my Dmax will push you back in the seat real hard when launched at 10-12 psi.All brand loyalty aside either truck will run 13's with relatively few mods. The ZF tranny is very balky and stiff,I drove one and it reminded me of a 60's non synchro 4 speed in a work truck. It is nothing like the smooth shifting T-56 or M-12.The Allison is a badass tranny for being a auto.

if you liked launching at 12-13 psi, you should try launching at 20 psi - gotta love that tranny brake!

good info guys. Gotta sell the GMC first though. I'm still not "sold" on a diesel yet however, as I only tow long distances maybe 3-4 times a year. 99% of the time, this truck will just be my daily-driver, and I need seating for 4 minimum.

Of course, I also don't want a $600+/mo payment on a work truck

IMHO a diesel is not worth the money unless you drive 25K+ miles a year minimum or love the fact that you can make insane power and beat "fast" cars out there. you can easily buy a fully loaded ex cab short bed 2wd leather package all the goodies for 34K bucks right now. that should be under 600 a month. they are damn expensive. also if you drive a lot, the milage will really help out and resale on these things are great. have you given thought to teh gas guzzling 8.1L trucks? much cheaper, just half the milage.

I put about 20K miles a year on my daily-drivers since I typically have two of them. But, that will change in a few months as I am moving closer to work. So, probably just 10K per year per vehicle.

I may just look at some used diesel trucks, tons of them on the lots around here.

look the noise in the cab is a very light noise. and on the duramax the epa mil is 12/16 stock. that sucks. well all around i would say get the ford you will love it.

I went out yesterday and test drove a Duramax crew cab, Powerstroke ex-cab, and a Cummins quad-cab/dually.

I am actually leaning towards the Dodge after comparing looks/price/total package. The F250 felt the quickest, but it was also the lightest of the three. The dually Dodge with the sport appearance package just looks so damn tough. Interiors on the Fords kinda suck, very boring. GMs have the best interiors. For the price, I can get a much nicer equipped Dodge.

now I just need to sell my GMC first

I drove a 555 ft-lb first, then a 600 ft-lb second. Identical trucks otherwise. I couldn't feel the difference, both felt *slow* compared to my GMC. I test drove a 6-speed Dodge dually today, damn those manual diesel trucks are a pain in the ***. You have to shift like 4 times just to get to 40 mph, that would drive me nuts. 1st gear is just to move the truck haha.
