Engine swap... what am I in for?
I bought a 87 Jimmy full size with a TBI 5.7L over xmas for 1000 bucks. 270,000kms, some of them pretty hard by the looks of it with dents, dings, torn safety chain loop on the hitch and dented in rocker panel and lower rear fender on the passenger side.
I also have a rusty 75 chev 3/4 ton 2wd with a 454, turbo 400 and 14bolt rear. 170,000 original km's that I've been thinking of parting out as it hasn't been on the road since 2002.
The 3/4 ton has the original gummed up quadrajunk carb and the jimmy uses TBI... what kinda of hastle would I be looking at to swap the 454 into the jimmy to breath new life into it?
What do I have to do with the tbi setup?
Should I use it on the 454, cut it all out like a kid with new wire cutters, or.....?
Will I run into weight problems in the front end?
Will the stock trany mount up?
What sorta of parts would I need?
I have a fair amount of question simply because I haven't done an engine swap before. I do have a buddy who has done serveral, but they've all been carbed motors so neither of us know how to tackle going from EFI to carbed...
