Default Exhaust manifold cracked, repairable?

Hey guys this is not for my truck, but since it is cast iron like ours, it is kind of like the same or something. It cracked right in the middle with 2 cylinders on each side of the crack. I know it is not recommended to fix this but it is too expensive for a new manifold. Can you just JB Weld it or something or wrap it up with heat tape or what would you recommend. The car runs fine but it is loud where the crack is. Thanks for the help.

If mig-welding is out of the question, ya try JB Welding it up. JB tends to run, so i think mig would be best. To let you know you will have to heat that iron up pretty hot to get the mig weld to stick. Or if you are a good arc welder that would be best. Either way, clean up the manifold to make sure the entire crack gets covered. (i never did like the leaky manifold 'ticking' noise) Good luck bro.

Thanks man. The local muffler man said you can't weld cast iron, but he is crooked as a hihosilver. This guy would do anything to screw someone out of their money. I will to get it welded. Thanks again.

Cast iron is next to imposible to weld. You may fix the crack, but you weaken everything around where that weld was made, if you can even get it to hold. Why don't you just get a junkyard replacment?

The same thing happened on one of our shop trucks. It's a F150 5.0. I know if you don't get it fixed you will end up with a burnt valve. It is cheaper to get a new manifold,or a used one from the junk yard. No riggin!!!

Its a 1.6L 4cyl Geo Prism. I guess I will get a manifold from ebay or a junkyard. Apparantly these cars always crack the manifold because I see several of them on ebay for 60 bucks each and they always sell.

What kind of truck is it for? I would just get some headers, if you have the $$ for it, but if not, id say do the junk yard thing

You actually can weld cast iron. just an FYI
But for only $60, what MR. MIX said, "No riggin'" I would just get one off e-bay and save the hassle of welding. (they would prob. charge approx. $30 to weld anyway)
