Default Filter element for old style Volant CAI

2006 Silverado SS, has a Volant CAI. Comparing it to other pics on the 'net, doesn't look like the one currently available with all the angles in the box. This one is more square and has a CF-look lid on it with 4 screws.

Filter element totally clogged up, unsure if it's a washable but some brainiac butchered the end cap on it so it's toast anyhow. It's got a 5" inlet, 9" length overall, 6.5" at the base, 4" at the small end.

Ordered Airaid 701-496 from Jegs which depending on which page you check specs, is similar in size other than 7.25"~7.5" at the base. Kept having delivery delays so I cancelled.

Got an AEM 21-2075DK from Summit, similar specs though a little shorter in overall length.

Fail: seems like 6.5" base is the largest that will fit inside the Volant due to the shape of the box. So for now, because I absolutely needed a filter, I'm running it without the box - defeating the whole purpose of a CAI.

Want to go with a washable, non-oiled filter. Anybody got a brand/part # for me?

Thanks!
Richard

Did you look at the filters Volant offers to see if you can find one that meets your spec? Volant Cool Air Intakes

They list the 5119 as being the one for these trucks.

These are the dry filter that may work that i found on summit...

Spectre Performance Air Filters 9736
AFE Power 24-45006

Other wise you would have to get a washable unit like a K&N or the original Volant filter that needs to be oiled.

I'm thinking there's a big difference between the angled design I mentioned and my boxy one. The filter in mine has a 5" flange with a 6.5" base; the 5119 is a 6" flange with a 7.5" base. Flange size aside, a 7.5" base filter won't fit in the box due to an internal "bump" along the bottom side.

Those Spectre and AFE #'s aren't 5" flange either.

Looks like the Volant filter that fits my box is the 5117 or 5151 (both appear to have same measurements?) but I really don't want another oiled style filter.

Thanks!

No problem, I guess you would need to wait for the Airaid filter to be back in stock and its looking like the end of the month according to some sites. I don't see many options that would match up in a synthetic material. All the ones I see are Oil'd

That's cool you can build custom filters at AFE; I didn't know that. I wonder what the turnaround time on them is. Not a huge issue as you generally know about when you're gonna need to change an air filter if you're doing regular maintenance...but in this particular situation, buying a truck and finding a ruined filter in it, I needed it ASAP.

I guess for now, I'll keep running with the AEM filter hanging out in the open. Kinda makes me look like an eBay-special-"CAI" chump but I'm not exactly taking it down to the strip so I'll be fine. Now that I realize the battle I'm facing finding the right filter in stock, I can order the Airaid again and just wait it out now that I've got something I can get by with.

I think it's based on all the different filters they have available.
