Default Flexalite 282 fan, 160°, 34" rad.

Well, got the fans, 160° thermo, and 34" radiator installed and tested them out today in some traffic and warm weather.

They did great in the stop and go traffic that I was in for about 45 minutes today.(Outside temps were around 75-80) The temp guage creeped up to the first small hash mark past the middle bigger mark and stayed there. Once moving the fans never came on. The needle stayed just below the middle mark while moving.

The truck is definately more responsive down low and through the midrange at part throttles but, I didn't notice much at WOT. It almost felt like it was outta tune but, my ATAP cable is missing so I can't check it right now. I wonder if the lower coolant temp. has anything to do with that??

One thing that I didn't like about the fans was how tight the top bracket fit. It fit tight and didn't allow any upwards movement for the fans so the side brackets fit tight down in the clips on the radiator. I think I'm going to elongate the holes in the side fan brackets to take some pressure off those plastic radiator clips. If one of those ever cracked things could get ugly.

One other thing I did was put another 3/8" spacer behind the top radiator mounts because the top fan bracket held the top of the radiator out a little too far. Without the spacers there was alot of pressure on the side tanks and the fan gasket wouldn't seal good on the radiator.

Overall it wasn't a bad install though. The hardest part was cleaning everything up after I was done.

John

for the brackets that go in the plastic clips all i did was grind a little off the bottom. but elongating the holes like you said would make it nice so you can adjust it.

Taking some material off the bottom sounds like a good idea. I think I'll just do that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who ran into this problem. Usually, I'm the one that gets the 1 defective part outta 1000.

I ground the bottoms of the side brackets too. I agree, a little more range of movement in the upper mounts would have been nice. I didn't have any problems with the fans sealing up though.
