Foiled again - Mirror Caps
I've had good intentions to paint the mirror caps on the truck for a couple months now. I've started to do it 3 times now. I haven't gotten past getting the dang caps off the mirror.
Went so far yesterday to go and buy a couple cheapy plastic pry tools. They broke. Caps on these mirrors are meant to stay put.
Problem is I don't want to damage what I have. I've decided to buy some caps cause next time I try they are coming off hell or high water. Problem is I can't find any. Just bare ready for paint would be nice. I know I've seen them but can't find them anymore. Where they at?

Roger I think the mirror caps are bolted to the mirror so you have to take out the mirror piece (glass) then you should see the bolts also I'm guessing the after market caps are stick on. Your local Gm dealer doesn't have them.

I'd stay away from doing that. I worked on GMT800 mirrors before they hit the market. HUGE PITA!!! After I tore into them, I was told...uhh, I don't think those were meant to be taken apart.
I mean from the mirror side.
And if they break...

I saw the thread on gmfullsize. I know I can get them off, in what condition is the thing. I ordered a new set of paintable ones. They're coming off the next time knowing that I'll have a new set to put on. Just have to do it without damaging the mirrors themselves. Butter knife sounds like a good idea.
Thanks guys.
