Default fuel filter leak

i just replaced my fuel filter with a gm one yesterday and when i went to my truck this morning it had leaked, i checked it after i drove it and it leaked at a fairly good rate. it is comming from the inlet side, i unscrewed it and the fuel line threads are fine, but i cleaned them and used some teflon tape and it seems to be sealed. my concern is how long the tape will hold up and if i should try to get another filter? the threads on the filter could be screwed up. the outlet side seals just fine.

i'd take it back apart and check the flare on the end of the fuel line and the filter inlet. you could have got a piece of dirt or something caught in there preventing a seal.

Yeah the seal is on the flare. If it isn't leaking now call it good in my opinion. Only concern is teflon tape making it into the system.

If the tape is only on the threads and the nut is tight, it shouldn't make it into the system. The threads don't seal the line to the filter, the flared end of the line does. Sometimes you have to tighten the snot out of the line to get it to seal...not good for the flare, but sometimes that's what it takes.

The only thing I would watch out for is the gasoline deteriorating the Teflon tape over time if its not rated for gas. I would recommend using a paste over a tape that is rated for gasoline. Also, to ensure that the tape does not dislodge you can start 2 or 3 threads from the end.
Here is a tape rated for fuel (and natural gas among other things):

Here is a paste rated for fuel as well:

Good luck!

yeah the teflon tape is my biggest concern now, but i didn't start it on the end about mid way and because it was before the filter i am not too concerned. but i guess next weekend i will take it apart again and see if can find anything. the gas was only comming out of the the treads not between the nut and the line.

Did you use flare nut wrenches to tighten the nuts? You can get a lot more torque with them when replacing a filter.

I have always been told not to use tape on that kind of stuff, but I would say if it runs fine, and does not leak, call it good. If u drove it for a day and never messed up you didnt get any tape in the fuel system imo.
