Default fuel level indicator (in tank)

on the side of the bucket, under the float arm. it attaches with two wires, and has a bimetallic strip that contacts the float arm to relay the fuel level...

anyhow, OOPS !! when i replaced the fuel pump the other day, i had trouble getting the bucket out, and the square metallic piece that the wires run to got knocked off. i called myself fixing it, and putting it back in behind the float arm. it registered the amount of fuel perfectly, for about 5 miles. the first big bump i hit knocked it loose again.

what would you suggest i can use to re-attach this to the plastic bucket? keep in mind its all submerged in gasoline. i was thinking about drying the bucket and using a hot glue gun, but not sure if that would withstand the gas. i guess maybe a little plastic piece was supposed to hold it in place on the side of the bucket, but i didnt see one remaining. most likely my frustration and impatience broke whatever held it off.

thanks for any suggestions.
