Default Fuel pressure bleeds off fast when keyed-off

Hey guys, when I turn the key off (or just turn the key forward to cycle the pump) I lose pressure in about 10 seconds. I can actually hear it in the left fuel rail area. However, there is no fuel odor under the hood. Could it be bleeding off through a bad injector? Has anyone ever had this happen? Thanks for the help.

I've seen injectors bleed off. You could take your fuel rail off and leave the injectors in and pressure it up and see which one is bleeding off. If none of them bleed off then its your pump.

You need to try and isolate it. Most likely place for it to go is bleeding off back through the check valve in the pump. Injectors and the regulator can do this too.

If it is an injector it may be hard to start if the motor is warmed up and been setting for 20-30 mins.. Would be like tryin to choke a warm motor.

I would suspect the regulator because you hear it in the left rail.

Normal for me because my MagnaFuel regulator isn't designed to hold pressure. I remember when fuel system was stock, and the truck started in what seemed like a half of a revolution every time. So no, it isn't normal to lose pressure and have to crank and crank before it starts.

Normal as in the pressure will bleed down after the pump is shut off. Granted 10 seconds is a little quick but it shouldnt be a problem. He didnt say anything about hard starting.

It has a brand new fuel pump, and my other truck doesn't do it, so I don't think it's normal. And yeah it takes an extra second to crank which is annoying.

Fuel pressure also doesn't hold steady like it should at heavy throttle, so I don't want to blow it up or anything if I ever have to get on it.

I will use your posts to troubleshoot it when I have some free time.

It's an 01 5.3 daily driver.

Then in that case I would suspect the fuel pressure regulator is acting up.
