Default Got rearended... questions

I live in Kansas, so if there are any helpful laws that any of you may know of, PLEASE let me know about them.

I was stopped, lady hit me at approx 40MPH, list of parts to be replaced are as follows, and this is based off of a purely VISUAL inspection by three different body shops.

Rear frame section
left bed side (Stepside)
Right bed side (stepside)
bed floor
bumper assy
reciever hitch and mounting brackets
and of course paint and so on and so on.
Total comes to 6-7000 in work.

Now the problem.

I do NOT want a repaired truck that has been in an accident, which is why I bought this truck and paid OVER book for it. This truck is in absolutly MINT condition, err well WAS.

There are service records that date back to original purchase time frame, all documented in the owners manual.

What is the thresh-hold for totalling a truck with this type of damage?

How much would they ask for it to buy back and part it out?

My issue with this situation is that it will be extremly hard to find another truck in like condition not only in this area, but any area.

The truck is-
2001 GMC Sierra Z71 ECSB step side
123500 miles 5.3 Auto
pretty much every option available and ALL working.

The interior is about as perfect as you can get.

I see the Clean retail value is 10.5, i owe 13.5 and paid 15 to the dealership where i bought it. Please no rediculing me for what I paid and or owe. I feel that it is worth the few extra grand for a well documented serviced truck that is in beyond excellent shape.

This will be my first experiance in this situation, fortuneatly or unfortuneatly?

ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated!!

Well my 02 had 104,xxx miles on it when I was hit on the front end, not sure on the total amount of cost to repair it. My insurance totaled it out for 12,xxx and they wanted 2800 to buy it back.

Hope that helps you out some.

Write off is right around 70% of current market value. Some other factors can play as well, but generally that's the threshold for writing off.

With what you have invested, you're probably better off [financially] to fix it if it isn't written off.

Fix it and sell it if you do not want to keep it.

You paid almost double what I paid for mine with a lot less mileage, and mine was clean. The market for trucks must be horrible there. Not a smart decision on your part considering that truck is realistically worth about 5-6,000 and you owe double that. I don't care how clean the truck is, it's 10 years old. Insurance companies don't care how clean it is.

KBB says that truck is worth $9,600 in my area in perfect condition, private party. Edmunds says $6800 in perfect condition.

Not sure where you live, but being that kbb values my truck 1,000 higher here than where your from, wouldnt that mean that the market for trucks in my area is better than your area? Condition of a vehicle immediatly prior to an accident is just as important as anything else BTW.

Preston, chevy- Sounds like there is a solid chance I could get them to total it out considering the cost of repairs + the cost of a rental for at least 3 weeks. I probably wont get the 15 I fell the truck is worth, as did the dealership I bought it from and the other couple that was looking at it right as I made the deal to purchase it, but thats the way it rolls right? I'm just mainly concerned in getting it paid off 100% for what I owe so I can start fresh and buy a truck again.

I may buy it back and fix it myself and sell it for what i can get out of it, or parts truck my be another great option. Hate to see such a smooth truck torn down tho.

I was born and raised in Kansas, and yes. The truck market sucks if you want a clean truck. Its one of the few states where trucks are actually used like trucks. So most are beat up.

I still dont think it was worth that what you paid, but there is nothing you can do about it now. I took a few insurance classes in college, and I'm gonna have to agree with the rest. The only way you have a chance in hell of getting any money back on this is to have it repaired then flip it.

Your probably best to have it repaired and drive it though. You can still get the insurance company to pay for repairs after its been repaired if there are still issues. Say, you drive it, but notice unusual tire wear. I'd make double sure the frame alignment was done and that the frame rails have not shifted.

With modern technology your truck can be repaired good as new. No worries on the repairs. The paint might not match 100% perfect but chances are you will not be able to see that. Those of us that are trained to grade diamonds. .. well for us it is a different story. LOL A competent shop is the key.
