Found out it was a radar detector. You should be able to tap into any hot wire that is hot when the ignition is in the "on and acc position". The cig lighter is ok, but it would leave it hot all the time and you would have to switch the unit off. If you don't mind that and you have the overhead console with the map lights (provided you are mounting near the top of the windshield), you can tap into one of the map lights up top.

I don't want it hot all the time like the cig lighter...
How can I find out which wires are hot only when the key is on??

Man finding a keyon hot wire was a b**** since I have no experience with wiring and such. When I fixed my LS1 fans earlier today I used the IGN E wire, but it is in the underhood electrical center. According to my remote starter manual (which I still haven't figured out), the fat orange wire under the dash running up into the steering wheel area is hot in the RUN position, but I haven't tried it yet so I can't promise anything. And hey FAST4.8 that reminds me, on your quarter mile records for the pickups, you might want to consider adding an "EF" or something for electric fans, since they are the hot thing lately. Hank, get a test light. Then just start checking wires. They also make wire taps that you don't have to cut the wire. I would recomend an inline fuse.
