Help with a/c high pressure too high with e-fans
Alright guys here my situation. Yesterday I hooked up the evac/rech machine and found that my high side is getting up to 400 with reved up to 2000 with the a/c on. I have 2 electric fans and have both of them as pullers. I have a 160 stat and engine runs about 185 now but with the a/c and at an idle the temp bump up to 205. Should I just get another fan as a pusher or flip one of my existing fans to a pusher? Thanks

there are several different reasons it could be to high. try and clean out your condensor first. to much freon could cause it also as well as constant clutch cycling, and a contaminated system.

yeah thats how i found out by having it on the evac/rech. machine. freon was a little low and filled to capacity and thats what i found out. yeah i should probably cleaned out the condensor and just put a puller. better to be cooler. thanks for the replies

205 is nothing to worry about in southern climates. The coolant is just absorbing heat off of the condenser faster than the radiator can dissipate it. Depending on the outdoor ambient temp the coolant will never run as cool as the thermostat is unless its a cool evening or early in the morning. Check to see if the a/c condenser airflow is restricted. If not your fans simply may not be able to move enough CFM of air across the radiator and condenser to keep it cool. If all that is good evacuate the system and pull the orifice tube on the a/c to see if it has any material in it.

If the system got too high, enough to cause a problem, the high pressure switch would trip and the compressor would shut down. Are you sure that the gauge is accurate? Also, what kind of fans are you running? You want to keep your fans as pullers whenever possible, it's much more efficient than a pusher. Pushers are really only good when space is limited and a puller can't be used. A bunch of good recommendations here btw...

it says that you were a little low on freon. How did you know it was low. Did you go by the pressure readings to tell or did you evac the system. after the evac did you pull a vacuum to boil any liquid contaminants out and for how long. One thing about ac machines is that their scales get out of whack alot and can give you false readings on how much freon you are pulling out and putting in.

i did the evac and the freon in the system was at 1.5 lb, which my sticker on the truck said its capacity is 1.8 lbs. I did the vacuum and filled back to capacity. I have 2 12" fans as pullers, permacool, there at 2,300 cfm each, there positioned between the engine and the radiator. I also blew out the rad. after reading some posts but not much dirt and debrew came out.

do another evac. make sure you see how much freon you pull out this time and see if it was what you put in. Pull the orfice tube out and check for restrictions. then calibrate the scale and perform a vacuum for 15mins and see if the vacuum holds. if everything checks out then recharge turn the ac on max and check temp at the vents.
