Help me diognose this noise

Alternator or PS pump. Something on mine whines at 3/4 to WOT. It's done this from the beginning.

i have a slight whine like this too. at first i thought it was the transfer case but i listen to it tonight and if i rev the engine it changed pitch. so what might the noise be?? hope some one finds a good cause so i can find mine. its real quiet and hard to hear unless you know its there.

I'm thinking ps pump or alt myself...you could narrow it down with a stethoscope or long screwdriver. My ps pump whines btw...fluid's full and it keeps working though.

yours isn't the hydromatic thing is it. my breaks work off my power steering.
