Help: Parking Brake
So I replaced my rear brake pads and was looking at the parking brakes to see why they haven't been working. Brake dust debris like crazy on the driver side and a couple flakes on the passenger inside the rotors. Parking brake shoes look fine. We start on the passenger side e-brake, and like a dumbass I can't figure out the adjuster.....lets just say that came after breaking stuff. Pull the shoe off and manually adjust it and replace. Trial and error while checking involved loosening the 8mm bolt that holds on the braket for the shoe. POP...the little bastard snaps with only 1.5 thread out. No room or tools the get the remaining bolt out. I needed to be on the road soon so rather than risking the shoe coming off, since the braket is no longer there, we cut the stupid thing (shoe) off with the cut off wheel. (rear brake pads installed without event)
That was mainly just a rant, my question is this: what and where or is there a special tool needed to put the new shoes on without sliding out the axle? I ask about a tool cause, as stout as those shoes are trying to pry it apart would likely get it out of round or hurt somebody.
Jim (VHO6000) I know you serviced the brakes on a work truck a few months ago. Did you replace the shoes or just adjust them?
Thanks for any help.
