Home engine swap.

while your at Harbor Junk get yourself one of those red plastic transmission tail plugs for $3. If you put that baby in there and make sure to cap/block or whatever with your cooler lines you'll avoid a bigger mess. I prefer to remove the engine/trans together because getting it (trans) out below the truck can be a real pain plus you don't have to remove the bellhouse bolts and converter, etc. You can put your jackstands to the highest setting and still not have enough room to get below the framerail with it on a jack. I hate jacking it down then sliding it off the jack to the floor, always a pain. And forget the Harbor Junk trans jack, it's damn near 1' off the floor fully collapsed. worthless. Just remove both together.

i did my 5.3 to 6.2 swap all by myself. started about 10AM and finished around 5.... it was my first ever swap. noting to it really. just unbolt , take out, put in. bolt back up.
didnt have to take my hood off. nor the compressor. only hard part was moving the motor around on my rusted engine hoist
