Default How do I remove a governor?

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500. Whenever I hit 99mph it cuts off the engine power and makes me downshift until I drop down around 90mph. When I got the truck it didn't have a governor but about 3 years ago I had some work done on it at a dealership and they installed the governor without telling me about it. I am just wondering how to remove the governor. I would rather not have to take it into a shop to remove it if that is possible.

It's in the tune. Sounds like the dealer reloaded factory tune back into your PCM.

It needs a tune, mail order or live is preferable over hand held....

Nelson Performance does awesome mail order tunes that will take care of your problem and give you a few extra horse also.

Any of the tuners who are sponsors of this site have good reputations, reasonable prices and are hard to go wrong with. pick the one whose sticker you like best lol. For what its worth i have a black bear tune and have been very happy with it. besides having the governor more or less removed my truck runs a lot better, more responsive, better shifts etc. Get one, you'll like it. No more expensive than a handheld tuner either.
