Just use an air-wrench, or stick a pry bar thru the pulley holes from the back.

i used a small pry bar (15'' long) in the inspection hole on the bottom of the trans.. worked just fine this was with a 1/2'' breaker bar

with air tools it should come off with no problem

To get it off like said you can stick a bar cross ways thru the balancer to hold it as you break loose the crank bolt.

To reinstall i use an electric impact, it seats it perfect.

Or you can use the top technique in reverse, its kinda easier with another set of hands.

Or they make a tool that locks to the teeth on the flywheel to prevent the crank from spinning.

An impact gun is the easiest way on and off.

use some loctite on the threads,(after you have the balancer seated on the snout of the crank, screw the bolt in the crank hand tighten all the way on. then have a buddy hold the fly wheel with a small pry bar.. now you can't torque the bolt to spec.

I removed the starter and black plastic piece and stuck a socket between the flexplate and bellhousing, using the teeth of the flexplate to hold the socket. Done this twice now without any issues. Probably not the best way but it works.

Where are you located, I have the KM starter lock assembly for locking the engine that you could borrow. The hardest part is torqueing the crank bolt when assembling the engine. If you use the GM bolt-uses torque stretch, you set the bolt to 37 ft-lb and torque it another 140 degrees. Many get an aftermarket crank bolt which requires considerably less torque.

i wrap the belt around the crank pulley to the power steering pulley to lock it all up. do a search and you can find pictures. it works like a charm.
