Default How to drop the rear ride height on a Tahoe?

It's easy on trucks with leaf springs...just change the shackles, but on a Tahoe it's got coil springs and a 4 link. Nice for traction, but the car looks stupid with its ***-end up so much higher than the front. It needs at least a 2" drop to level things out, maybe more. Do I cut the coil springs or is there an easier way?

Belltech and DJM make the drops for the tahoes/suburbans. My boss has an 02 Suburban with a 2/3 drop and loves it.
Belltech drop
DJM Drop

I hope this helps!

Put that 'ho on the ground Patrick! They do look kinda goofy with the HUGE rear fender gap don't they?

Then you need some wheels

What do these drop kits consist of? Are they relocating brackets like an F-Body? The websites in the links above don't give any description, just prices.

Is this something I can do myself or am I at the mercy of a suspension company with their overpriced drop kits?

Installed the Bell Tech 2/3 drop kit on my '00 Tahoe in about 5 hrs w/ airtools.

Front drop consists of a new torsion bar key which needs to be replaced. (need special tool to release & re-intstall torsion bar) New shocks and bump stops. Hardest part (after finding tool) is to remove stock bump stop cup.

Rear drop consists of new coil, bump stops, shocks and limiting strap. This install is a breeze.

Also, if you are only looking for a rear drop, check out Hotchkis, they offer a "leveling coil" for Suburbans but they say it will fit on the Tahoe.

Beware that I have found the Bell Tech kit to be on the edge of the envelope. My rear axle travel has been greatly reduced and I bottom-out more than I would like. Probably because I'm driving faster than I should. Bell Tech's own dropped Tahoe has an Ride-Rite Air Coil system to help out the back end. I am trying to find out what they installed and if it was a custom set-up or just a bolt-on for the dropped rear-end. I would like the added support for the back.
