I wanted to get a new HO 6.0L and get rid of my 4.8L with almost 60,000 mile on it.

What is a reasonable selling price for a 1999 4.8l with 57,000miles(all freeway, no problems since i have owned it, excellent condition, records of all oil changes)?

Please be serious, my 4.8l with my mods can beat a stock ford 2wd 5.4L four door truck. Its a good engine no matter what people say, i want more power like everyone else though.

I honestly cant say what its worth, but I do know there isn't much demand. Someone here just sold a good low mile 5.3 for ~$700. I think you should keep it. I'm going to throw my 70K mile 5.3 into storage. If I ever sell or wreck it, I can swap the 5.3 back and keep the expensive motor. Don't count of getting $$$ for the new motor from selling your 4.8L.

 

if you find someone with a jeep looking to do a v8 swap, i bet that motor will be worth some money to them

i think the only part that anyone would pay for is the heads, aren't they worth $300 or more?

 

You might get the most money if you actually parted it out and sold each pan, cover, and component as sepererate items. Heads may bring $300. Block might bring a few $$$.

Yeah, Jeepers ought to bring your best $$$ if you sell the engine in one piece. Someone should jump on it for $700 easily, I think. If you get serious about posting it online somewhere post it at jeeps unlimited too. If I were ready for an engine swap, I'd take it off your hands but I'm about 10 months away from that stage.

I have the same problem. When the time comes (warenty runs out) I plan on a 5.7 swap. I may be keeping the heads and intake for the 5.7 so the short block wont be worth much.
