How to Remove Valve Covers?
Please do not laugh at my stupid newbie question. I am very mechanically inclined, having rebuilt several engines for older (1960s-1980s) cars, but I have never done anything on a modern car but change the oil.
2005 GMC Yukon. 4.8
I want to remove the valve covers and maybe clean out the PCV/orifice on the driver's side valve cover and the fresh air tube baffling under the passenger side valve cover.
On an old car, I would just undo the four bolts and take them off, being sure to have a new gasket ready for reinstallation.
On this 2005 GMC 4.8, though, there are coil packs and all kinds of stuff. What do I need to do so that I can do this without messing anything up? Disconnect the battery? Remove the coil packs (and, if so, how)? Just disconnect the spark plug wires? Is a new gasket needed?
Help me out!

I have a gauge for that
iTrader: (42)
I want to say the valve cover bolts are 8mm. There are 4 of them. The nuts holding the spark coils on are 10mm. Unclip the big white connector in the middle, unbolt them and set them aside. You dont need a new gasket assuming the current one is in good shape.
