Default ice bag on intake?

i just saw something in a magazine.
it was a "ice bag" to put on top of the intake manifold?
but it was $100! bit high?

any of yall do this when ur at the track?
im guessing it cools the air alittle?
or helps cool teh motor off when waiting??

i've tried using a bag of ice to cool MAF, intake tube, and its only a small small difference that cannot be pinned down to the bag of ice...could be because of any number of variables.

If you have a s/c putting the bag on the s/c will make a good difference.

Icing down the intake is a trick that will work decent on a motor that has an aluminum intake, like say a 5.0 mustang. On these truck engines with the plastic intake you will not see a noticable gain.

Also be careful icing down a supercharger-cooling down the case can cause it to contract while the internals stay hot and do not contract. When you are talking about something with such precise tolerances as a blower, it doesn't take much to cause some interference. Ask me about the Powerdyne I exploded.......just a FYI

Never understood this....by the time you take the ice off, drive over to the staging lanes, sit in the staging lanes for a while, get on the track and do a burnout, stage.....your blower or intake is just as hot as it was before the ice...maybe I'm wrong.

not to mention you WILL warp the rotor housing by doing this.
