Default Identifying motor from VIN

Is there anywhere on a lq9 that has the vin of the truck it came out of ?

im looking at a lq9 from a salvaging company and they listed it as having 33k miles and were up front about giving my the vin, which i ran through the gm database and came up with the mileage they told me.

im just thinking they might have remembered a low mileage vin number and throw it out there incase a guy like me asks and instead it does have higher mileage.

any ideas ?

Dan.

Thanks man I know its an lq9 what in trying to find is there's a vin stamped somewhere on the heads/intake/block too see if it matches with the low mile vin they gave me. It's really the only way I can think of verifying the low mileage they claim.

Bump......

not that I've ever heard of. He could have given you the vin off any similarly equipped vehicle.

Yeah basically what I was afraid of. I guess it might be time to build a motor instead.

Honestly unless you paid a premium for the LQ9 over an LQ4, I wouldn't be too too worried about the difference, especially if it's an 05+ engine. The difference in compression really isn't all that much, and if it is 05+ the internals will be the same. Depending on what your plans are with the motor, and LQ4 might be a better platform to start. How much did you pay for the engine?

Haha, i've verified that its infact a lq9. what im trying to verify is the mileage that the guy is stating which is on the lower side of things at 33k. what my concern is, is that its higher mileage than there letting on and giving me a vin of a super low mile motor.

really no way to tell.

the price on this engine is 1600 bucks, i can find cheaper but most have 100 - 130 k miles on them.

I think I might just have to poney up some cash and get a AES or HKE shortblock and go from there, that way I know im starting with a 0 mile motor.

anybody seen a forged 370 with lots of mileage ? I see people building crazy *** motors all the time but I never hear the outcome of the Longevity of them.

my stock 5.3 has 120k miles on her and I drive it hard often, am i skeptical to think i couldnt get that kind of mileage out of a built motor with a smaller cam and the supporting mods ?
