Ign lock bad, need help
I have a 2001 silverado with a bad ignition lock cylinder. The only manual I have is the trusty Haynes. In there it says to insert the key and turn it to the "start" position so it can be removed. The problem is that it won't turn from the "OFF" position. So now what do I do? I haven't started any disassembly yet. If you guy know something that can help please let me know. All help is very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

K take the plastic steering wheel column **** off. Turn your key to the on position, then notice on top of the ingition cylidner housing there is a TINY whole, stick a pick screw driver in there and the cylidner will slide out....done....repalce with new keyed cylinder.
If you need to turn it off, sticka scrtew driver in and turn it off...

Thanks for the responses. I ended up getting the cylinder to turn.
I spoke to a guy that works at a local Chevy dealer. He's run into this before and told me to get some liquid graphite. He said there's something about the graphite that loosens things. Anyway, I shot some of it into the cylinder and then put in the key.Still stuck. Then I used a SMALL lightweight mallet and tapped the back of the key a few times, stopping to try the key after two or three taps at a time. after about the 3rd set of taps, PRESTO, it turned! Now all I have to do is follow the replacement procedure that bgray mentioned, and I'll have it. Thanks alot guys. Even though I got the info locally, these responses let me know I wasn't in it alone. Thanks again.
