Default Interesting article

Anyone find anything odd with any of this information?

http://www.motortrend.com/features/c...ecs_price.html

Read the rest of the article too. Def some off information for the rest of it. I know it's an older article, but it's alot of mixed up info. I think someone was not paying attention when they were given the information and wrote it all wrong.

I remember when they were touting that fantasy lineup. It would have been nice for it to come true, but as we all know only the Trailblazer SS came out of that - and not with the engine that is listed in that article.

I wouldn't say that there is incorrect information in the article. At the time of print, this is what they knew.

They continued to make the SSS, but they switched the TBSS and SSS engines and they still haven't come out with the Tahoe. I can't imagine a TSS with only 345hp either, that seems quite low for getting to be such a big truck.

To my knowledge:
The original Trailblazer SS concept had a 6.0L LQ9, a 4L80-E, and a 9.5" semi float read end. Too heavy up front. They kept the displacement but went to aluminum (LS2), kept the rear end, and put in lighter a junk trans.

In 1996 there were several 4-Door Vortec 350 Tahoe SS concepts. The had what appears to be the Diesel bumper, front facia, ground effects, wheels and tires, lowered stance. I've seen them in blue, green, and black. They had a few other exterior things like roof-rack delete, body-color bumpers, mirrors, and door handles. They all had grille inserts. One of them (I think the blue one) had a big block, 4L80-E, and a 5-lug 9.5" rear end like the one the 454SS pickup. It had a fairly exotic induction system with dual LT1-Type throttle-bodies. No MAF sensors on this thing. I believe it was probably speed-density MPFI. This engine had a TBI accessory serpentine system on it. Most just had the L31.

'96 Badging:

'96 colors: (black and green had the same wheels)

Wheels on the Blue one: (The only Tahoe SS concept to have different sizes front-rear)

In 1998 GM developed the Tahoe Police Package. A new Tahoe SS concept was built based on these parts. It had some things no previous 2WD Tahoe had: power steering cooler, rear sway bar, larger calipers, etc. It also received 6-lug rotors up front and a 6-lug rear end. (I don't know if this was a 8.5 or 9.5", but probably just the 10-bolt.) This one was fitted with chrome 6-lug Ronal R36 17x8.5" rims and 285/60 R17 tires. (I have a set of these exact rims on my '99)

1998 Tahoe SS Concept:

The Police stuff and body parts found its way eventually into the 2000 Tahoe Limited. It stayed 5-lug like all other OBS 2WD Tahoes and got 16x7" Ronal R-36 rims that are metallic-painted and have a machined face.

2000 Tahoe Limited:

The 2003 Tahoe SS Concept had the Silverado SS engine, 4L65-E trans, and a 9.5" semi-floating 14-bolt rear end. The rear end in this one was unique - discs on a 6-lug 9.5" with link suspension. This, like all other Tahoe SS concepts, was 2WD.

2003 Tahoe SS concept:

That's about all I know about Tahoe SS concepts. Some of it's probably wrong but the people who REALLY know will never speak up....

In 2000 the new body style SUVs came out. Two models of the old body style were still available - the Limited and the Z71.
