Question Ipod users.

Is there anyone that has an ipod and has it hardwired it to their Silverado? I have the factory cd player with the aux output. What is involved with the intallation? Any info is appreciated.

P.S. Mods, you can move this if its in the wrong forum.

Yes, you can use your aux input on your factory deck to run an MP3 player or other audio device.

Perephial makes a auxillary input adaptor that allows you to transfer audio digitally through RCA's. Hitting AUX on the deck will allow you the audio device that is connected to the RCA's. This one is for any MP3 player. I used this in my dads yukon for his video system. The FM modulator had HORRIBLE road/engine noise.

This is especially for the IPOD, a bit pricey though.

Works great. We sell em at my store

Personally I'd just get the AUX2CAR adapter. It's cheaper and you can use it to hook up any auxilary device like a laptop or MP3 player.

Monster Cable make a adapter that plugs into the headphone jack and into the cigarette lighter then all you do Is put your FM radio on one of the 5 adjustable stations and it comes in over your FM radio and sounds good.

Is there any road noise or static with the AUX2CAR or the IPOD2CAR adapter? Are those my only options? I have also heard of a cable you can buy ar Radio Shack for $10 that works for hardwiring. Thanks for the input guys.

No static or road noise with the Peripheral devices mentioned. That being said, if you hook up a laptop with a poorly shielded AC/DC adapter you can get noise and sometimes it's aweful! I tried using cheap $50 adapters when my good one burned out and it was so bad I couldn't use it. I tried 3 different ones and no go. The only thing that worked was the expensive $100+ units. My Dell DJ also get a bit of system noise when the charger is hooed up through the ciggarette lighter but it's not bad at all. I am using a high end Eclipse deck with an AUX input built in so it's not my deck.

The AUX input on the stock radio kinda baffles me. What the hell is it used for? I'll try and remember to ask the guys at the shop since I don't know. I don't really work there right now so when I do make it over there I usually forget this stuff. LOL
