surf craigslist for used intakes to save some $$$$
i have an AEM which came with a cotton/oiled filter but i replaced it with a dryflow
the best bang is get a tube kit from airraid or whoever and get a dryflow replacement for the box then drill some holes in the bottom front
or use a paper filter over the oiled cotton filters cause they suck

you can make a tube but abs and pvc is ghetto at least get steel or aluminum tube and some rubber connectors

I am. I agree with the oiled filters just being a bad idea as well.

If you REALLY feel the need to modify an engineered system that is capable of feeding the 6.0 and 8.1 in stock form, then I agree with just doing the tube and drop-in dry filter.

I just really don't think anyone can "feel" the difference.

Funny, K&N does not even claim an increase in mpg with their filters but lots of people claim they do.

We certainly understand why it is theoretically possible for a consumer to experience a mileage increase after installing a K&N air filter or intake system, however, we do not go so far as to make a general claim that our air filters and intake systems will provide an increase in mileage.

well when you open the intake your giant gas powered AIR PUMP works less
the filter lowers the restriction, thats not something K&N invented or discovered
if you drive youre truck looking for the best MPG's then youre a fool, go buy a prius and join the tree huggers

lol nah I don't mind the MPG of my truck but I'm sure we all would like to save just a little with our gas guzzlers. all I'm asking is if the replacement K&N filter differs from the K&N Intake because I have the filter and thought that maybe the intake was better but didnt wanna spend $300+ if there wasn't much of a difference

seriously most of you people are not in california, when it comes to K&N you are buying the name more than anything, with all the intake kits available stay away from K&N, hell even a cheap ebay intake will give you the same numbers

id like to save some money too but driving like grandma will not be it, we have politics and morons to thank for our gas prices

Just modify your stock box and your good. I drilled a 4" hole through the bottom of the box and then through the metal plate below it. Threw in a short piece of that thin aluminum dryer duct and it works great.
