the only real differance is you get to change out the stock tubing which causes turbulance, which in theory should slightly decrease horsepower, i have a 97 k1500 and i have a air raid intake elbow and filter, the differnce for me to change to a full set up is i can get away from that stock tubing and also i do not have any type of heat sheild, so my intake sucks in hot air once the motor heats up, i noticed a differance from stock to what i have and id imagine that a full intake would make a noticable differance as well

The purpose of the air filter is NOT fuel economy or power, it is engine protection. This is the single most important reason for filtration. The OEM paper easily allows sufficient airflow to the engine required perform at specs.
The aftermarket filter makers emphasize power and fuel economy as benefits, and filtration rates of up to 97%. However, none mention that the OEM filer they are replacing has a filtration rate of 99.7%.
The benefits of improved airflow (fuel economy) are negligible unless you also alter the computer control module. The air to fuel ratio is fixed and when you give it more air, the MAF sensor signals the ecm and it adds more fuel to compensate.
You can say “improves fuel economy by 10% when compared to a dirty filter” but not a new one.
