key lock cylinder replacement?

key lock cylinder replacement?
I was lucky enough to have some ******* break into my truck a little bit ago via screwdriver in the passenger side lock cylinder, so I need to get a replacement. Anybody know the drill for this? I'm assuming they have to match it to my VIN and such since the lock cylinders are key specific..

IDK about the drill but I guy who used to work here had a cyl replaced in the parking lot by a locksmith. He had a 99 or 00 4.8 and i think no alarm/security stuff. His key would not turn the cyl because some of the pins that the key pushes out of the way were broken.
Maybe a smith could at least give you some info(if you wanted to fix it yourself)about the drill bit, etc.

lol, sorry. by drill i meant the process. not a literal drill with a bit or anything. my bad haha. but thanks for the info, though. I priced out a new lock cylinder from GM and it was like $75!! So i'm definitely gonna try alternate routes before that one.

Happened to my buddies impala. You can get the cylinder like you stated, but it has to be keyed to fit your keys which is an additional cost (don't remember how much) Changing the cylinder isn't hard though. Pull the panel, 3 nuts iirc, and release the 2 bars for the lock and the latch. pull the handle out, remove clip and cylinder, and the replace it all.
Since it is the passenger side, might think about putting a handle without the key hole in it. If you don't already have painted handles, would probably come out cheaper to get painted handles and just remove that key hole all together. If you do have painted handles, still would be cheaper to just get one handle rather than the cylinder. Could do rear handles on both and get rid of both key holes, but then you better make sure your battery in the truck and keyless is always got some juice.
