Even 800 pounds going from a 2wd-4wd? seems kind of steep, considering the transfer case and front differential are aluminum. transfer case is probably about 75lbs, axle Im not sure but I cant see it being more then 200lbs, drive shaft, 20lbs? misc electronics for it to work approx 20 lbs? CV shafts another 20-30 lbs. Torsion bars cant weight to much more then springs, we do have an extra crossmember, but I cant see the weight difference being more then 400-500lbs

you're forgetting the front axle

edit: whoops... thanks for catching that.
i dunno about our trucks, but the axle for an isuzu pup weighs about 185 lbs.

and i weighed a couple weeks ago - 4780 with a full tank & me. that's a RCSB 4x4 with not a lot added. i can't wait to get some aluminum wheels, though. that'll cut 36 unsprung lbs right there

I never knew what to guess when comparing 2WD - 4WD or AWD. I figured at least 3-400# at minimum. So 4-800 should cover that.

Also, goin from RC to EC. It's prolly yr dependent, since some came w/. 3 or 4 dr design, or added inches. My guess is 2-600#. So, I figure 3 or 400 is a good number there. Anyone?

Or RC - EC - CC? What's accepted there as common?

My question is, how can there be such a huge fluctuation in race weights?

It varies by:
-cab config. & length ( w/in that, step- or fleet-)
-drive:2, 4 or AWD
-chassis/ frame (1500/ 2500, etc.)
-axle setup (10/ 14 bolt)
-yr (which would create changes i.e. block material, safety content, yada yada)
-engine block material
-power adders (all add wtg)
-exh (hdrs or manis, catbacks, duals, dumps, exits & their materials)
-tranny (A or M, 60 series, 80E, 5/6 spd & their capacities)
-different body panels & their materials (cowl hoods, rollpans instead of bumpers, cladding i.e. SS) fiberglass vs steel

-interior trim levels
-bed cover material (soft, hard, liners)
-tires/ wheels (sizes & materials)
-drums/ discs (& their sizes)
-suspension changes (drops, lifts & not just how they're done but materials)
-gas level & fluids
-deleted parts
-extra bits (stereo eqpt, subs, misc. crap)

-driver (ya, it's not part of truck, but it is goin down the track)

-Last but not least, when we've swapped parts (efans, alernators, trannies. Not just the parts themselves, but whatever we took out/ added to make it work)

I may've left a few items/ generalities out, but that should cover a majority of ideas.

What exactly are you confused about? What is the concern about this weight misconception you speak of? The question of race weight is obviously related to how quick/fast you are or aren't. Everyone has a different setup period... Beyond that when it comes to race weight AND times, its about weight to power ratio...
