LQ4 and LQ9 Questions
Ok, the other thread got way out of hand. I would like to know more about these two motors. I don't want to hear what you think about someone else, just the information about these two motors.
I am very interested in doing this swap, but was under the asumption that the LQ9 was the better motor to get. If any of you guys have any info to share on these two motors I would love to learn more about them. I'm sure it would help alot of the other board members out to.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

personally if the prices werent too different I'd go with the LQ9 if just wanting to put bolt ons on it. Most people opt for the LQ4 because its lower compression and it's usually less expensive.

I see.... That's really what I'm looking for, reliable power. Not that it wouldn't be with a blower, I just couldn't afford the dang thing. I'm looking for good solid power out of the box.

depends on what you're looking for, many of the guys on here want to break 11's with any 6.0 motor setup, and I dont blame them, when I had my '00 5.3 modding it became very addicting and after awhile you got used to a mod and you craved for more. You'll get good power out of both in stock form, but like I said if its a question of lets say $1000 difference are you willing to stick with the LQ9 stock, or the LQ4 with $1000 in mods?

You want reliable power out of the box, just get the LQ9 and be done with it, or throw a little spray on it for some fun
If you want to mod it, go with an LQ4
Blownchevy has an LQ4 with a Radix on it, I think he wants to spray it too, but he won't admit it

Pewter is right. A LQ4 with 1000 bucks worth of mods is alot more motor than a stock LQ9 and the power difference is really less than the advertised ratings. yes there are fuel and spark differences but you going to need some sort of tuning with the swap so that will be negated. save the money and mod a LQ4 they are much more plentiful. for a little over 1000 bucks of mods you could go LQ4, 02 LS-6 camkit +4degrees and headers.

the only difference between the LQ4 AND LQ9 is that the LQ4 has dished pistons, personally i would bet that the power difference in the two is much less than what is usually advertised. the LQ9 would be great for an NA application or power adder, and if you look you can usually find one somewhere on the net for a good price.

Hey Flem, do you plan on running the Z06 cam in your 6.0? And if so, why did you choose this cam when there are so many others out there? I am still undecided on a cam for my 6.0, although I gotta pick one out here soon as I hope to put it in the truck in the next couple weeks.

the LS6 cam ins't that great in trucks in my opinion. i've riden in 2 that had the LS6 cam, one was a 5.3 with the 01 LS6 cam and it was a turd (reg cab short box) and the other was a 4.8 with the 03 LS6 cam and it was a turd also with the same setup as the other motor. i would get a custom grind from comp if you're going to do a 6.0. badmofo, i have a good 6.0 cam for sale in the classified section.
