I change mine whenever I have free time after the "change engine oil" reminder comes on. Typically, I get 8,000-12,000 miles between changes, depending on weather and driving habits. My truck is my DD, and has 127k miles.

To this day, when I drain it, I get around 5.9 quarts of oil in my drain pan. Accounting for ground spillage and minimal leftovers in the oil pan...that means it doesn't burn a drop of oil. I freakin love these engines.

I usually buy whatever synthetic oil is on sale, which usually is Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge. I've tried multiple brands, and seen zero difference in durability or life. Spending money on extras like 'super cleaning high-scrubbing nitrogen infused neutron particle cleaner, etc.' add-ons in oil is a complete waste of money. Regular synthetic is just as good. And until they make a filter that will last 15,000+ miles, buying oil guaranteed to last that long is also a waste, IMO.

When I have to turn the radio past 25 to drown out the knocking, I add a quart or two.

seriously: M1-6,000 miles give or take
