Default The mirror temperature thing doesn't read correctly with winter front covers?

Does anyone elses truck do this. It's cold out, here. It's 10-20 degrees out and I have the winter front grille and bumper covers installed on the truck (duramax). I'm sure that the sensor just is picking up engine heat because the covers are blocking the air flow because I'm seeing like 45-50 deg on the mirror when it's 15 out. I was just curious if anyone else has noticed thier truck doing this with the winter covers installed.

I think that the thing in front of the radiator is just for the mirror temp readout. It went bad in a friend's car, and the only thing that seemed to be changed was the reading inside the car. The IAT sensor is generally located in the intake system.
