Default Motor swap possibilities/suggestions?

So, Im thinking of getting a 98- obs chevy/gmc and will probly do a motor swap pretty soon after getting it. What are the options and which would be the easiest/most affordable? IE LTI, LS1, LQ4 and so on. Id like to get the truck into high 12s. Itll be a reg. cab/short bed 2wd.

Where are some places online that list motors and prices? Ive seen a website before but cant remember it.

LQ4 alot easier to do it with, plus if your gonna do it, like NIKE says just do it!
i know everyone will say my 5.3 or there 4.8 will do 12s they are full of it !

if you get a 99-newer the swap will be MUUUUUUCCCCHHHH easier. plug and play. ANY LSx motor will be that way, ls1, lq4, lq9, lm7, lr4, ls6, etc.

What kinda options do the obs trucks have? Honestly, Id prefer a 96-98 from a looks stand point, but I know they may be tough to find, and I like the 99-02s so Im ok with it if it ends up like that.

i dont think there is a direct swap for the OBS's maybe a LT1/LT4 or a 383HT crate engine. you can get rid of the electronics and go with a GEN1 carb'd setup.

all LSx engines will be the same difficulty

hmm, so is there not any head/cam setups etc. for the obs 5.7s? Im kind surprised by that honestly, dont doubt it, just surprising considering the oodles of stuff for the LSx motors.

Are there even any power adders for the obs?

I think there are some A/C to frame clearance issues when swapping an LS style engine into the OBS trucks among many other hurdles to overcome. The easiest and most affordable to hit 12's would be to pull the original 350 out, stroke it to 383 or 396 cubes, and top it with some better heads and intake. Going to need some fuel upgrades likely also.

Id thought about the 383 option. Do any of the vendors/links on this site have stuff for the 5.7s? I figure if I got a higher mileage motor that needed a rebuild anyway, I could just add the extras at rebuild time and start fresh.

first off you really need to figure out what you want to do.
second you need to get a price in mind on how much ou want to spend.
third going with a ls1 motor you will need to by a bunch of items, do a search on here and ou will be able to find all the info some what, but i bet you will get most of what you need!
fourth the 383 idea is a direct fit! i would prolly go that wrote my self with a carb also, just because i dont have the money to spend on the efi stuff and programmers etc etc
