My review of da trucks
Went to the GM auto show in motion today and besides getting to drive a new GTO and a Z06, I drove a bunch of trucks so I figured i'd share what I thought of them...
Silverado SS: Smooth ride, decent power, good grip powering through corners, good over bumps.
Duramax 2500: Seemed like a dog, good thing they are easy to mod, nice n quiet for a diesel.
GMC Quadrasteer: Rides like any other GMC truck, turns TIGHT, very very small turning radius.
Ram Quadcab Hemi: Gutless. Decent low end torque gives the false impression of speed, good headroom, radio in the dash looks like it came out of a neon (and it does), bland dash layout.
Escalade EXT: Decent power, rides like buttah. Suprisingly good exhaust note.
Old body style ford: Didn't bother, nor did I see anyone else.
Nissan Frontier Desert 4x4: Worst dash layout ever. Heavy steering. Lacking in power. Narrow seats, high sill height. Choppy over bumps. Pretty good radio.
Toyota Tacoma: Tiny cab, door so close to the steering wheel it squeezed my leg when I shut the door. Heavy disconnected feel to steering, underpowered.

Oh, also drove a trailblazer EXT V8, Caddy SRX, and Buick Rainier.
Caddy: Nice interior, very cool HUGE sunroof.
Buick: V8 power in a fairly light vehicle makes it feel very quick, comfy interior, seats like the trailblazer and envoy have very flat seats which I don't really like, they don't seem to offer much lateral support.
Trailblazer EXT V8: Slightly slower than the Buick, very quiet interior and smooth ride. 2nd and 3rd row passengers have good foot and legroom (i'm 6'4", thats important to me).

Oh, another I forgot, the H2...they have some dirt mounds to drive around on and it is a very very smooth offroad ride, roomy inside with lots of head and shoulder room, and, love it or hate it, looks really big. Unfortunatly with the HUGE spare they have in the rear, it eats up a lot of cargo room.

I was there for about 5 hours and it wasn't too busy so I didn't have to wait too long for anything. I also drove other cars, SUV's, ate lunch, etc. I didn't think they were doing El Toro again, I thought their next stop was San Diego. If you can swing it, the way to go about it is to go on a thursday and sign up for the earliest time possible, I was there at 8AM, actually earlier, but they dont open till 8. You have to drive 1 truck or SUV to quailfy to drive the H2, and 1 car to qualify for the auto vette/Z06/SSR(which also has a really nice exhaust sound). My suggestion is to drive one of each, then do the H2 and the vette, otherwise, if you wait till later in the day, you will stand in line for 45 minutes to drive each. Also, like I said, it was fairly empty there today, but they said there are supposed to be 11,000 people there on saturday.
Make sure you ask for the $500 ASIM rebate if you go before you leave. If you buy a new car, an extra $500 back will be a nice little perk.
