I have a 2001 Tahoe with the 5.3... my fuel pump is making an audible whine after start up and running... it has 124,500 miles on it, and its the original pump. I changed the fuel filter last week to see if that was plugged.. it was a little but the whine is still there and getting louder now.

I have checked with autozone and checker and all those companies but they only sell the complete assembly for $270!!! and not just the pump...

do i have to buy the complete assembly? Is that my only option?? or can i just buy the fuel pump from somewhere? also how much of a bitch is this to change? thanks

I changed a pump on a 02 truck. It took about 1.5 hrs tops. Not real bad at all.

 

man if you have any thoughts of any kind of power adder in the future you should get an aftermarket high volume pump now.

 

no upgrades...no power mods.. wifes car.. just leaving it stock...

 

oh ok yeh go ahead with a stocker then. its lasted this long....it must be a good part. mine has whined for 2 years and i have never had a problem with it.
