@_zebra Yeah he put that one down a while ago and just parted it out. He still has the supercharger just sitting in his shop.

but one thing i do remember about my little brother's '94 - them seats were dang comfortable!!

and i think slapping some 305 heads on the L05s made for some cheap ponies... or a little more involved was swapping Vortec heads, roller cam, & TPI from the 96+ L31.

I offered to buy the charger from him but he said he is going to use it. He used the rear axle off the RCSB to put on his OBS, wheels went to the OBS, I think he sold the front end. Don't know about the rest honestly. Engine and trans I think he still has. I don't think the whole truck has been scrapped yet.

either way, i don't remember ol Dirty Dan having any OBS trucks... but i also ain't talked to him in a few months.

eventual LS wouldn't be out of the question...
and while i appreciate the pointers, you seem to've missed more than the engine.
this one's a 350ci, plus it has a 5speed from the 2500/3500 trucks (factory built). still anemic at 210 crank hp with the junk pre-Vortec heads & flat tappet cam, but it's much better than a 305 & did good enough in our 95 suburban when i first got my license. also, 300lb-ft of torque @ 2800rpm with gearing to pull a house beats the snot out of anything Toyota could muster.

i'd still have my dodge for heavy work, so a 1/2ton will be plenty fine for her (we were looking at Tacomas, remember).
Doh! (about the 305)

Ah, ok. I was trying to remember if you have a Turbodiesel for heavier work...you do.

I believe a common upgrade was to put the Vortec heads on a 350 TBI. I remember it involves a bit of machining. I'm not familiar with the TBI engine TBH. I'll have ask what my brother is getting for gas mileage: I want to say a bit of improvement (?) He hasn't installed the AC on his truck, but he said he can retain the compressor and just relocate it with an aftermarket bracket.

You can also swap the 14 bolt 6 lug rear axle. My brother did that as well as the front knuckles. He's got a 2wd truck with 6 lug wheels.

i was just bustin' yer *****, man!

really do appreciate hearing your family's experience with them. OBSs were still new-ish the last time i regularly drove one, so i know it's different now. most of the ones you see nowadays are A) ragged out, B) just a run-to-the-dump truck, or C) the camper hauler that sits most of the year.

Yup! 😊

A few months ago I had my 12 year old son clean the interior since I had never done that since I bought it. He actually shampooed the carpet and seats and looks nice...I think too nice for making dump-runs!

And last month I replaced the boost valve (and some other Sonnax valve on the same assembly) on the transmission because it would it had this strange/annoying stall when I put it in gear. And I don't know what happened 'cause now it slips in all gears. I need to diagnose. 😭 Well, at least you don't have to worry that sort of thing with a manual transmission...

she called just to inform me how much she'd been thinking about this Silverado all day (after i'd showed her a few pics night).

and the more i look into them, it appears nearly 20-30% of the early-90s full size trucks had manuals... which helps a lot.
