Default Oil Cooler or no Oil Cooler

I scored a 34 inch rad from an 09 for 100 bucks. It has the factory oil cooler on the left tank. My concern is if I spend the money at the stealership for the lines and thermostat to make it work that I'll someday be driving my lowered truck in a field or something and snag the lines and kill my engine. Can and should the oil cooler tank be blocked off? Or has anyone ever seen it used to cool any other fluid? Thanks.

Good buy!

My truck has no oil cooler, but the new 34 rad i bought came with one, but has plugs in the openings.

Just buy some plugs to keep the junk out for piece of mind. Other than that you'll be fine.

If you are not worried about your tranny lines, then there is no reason to be concern about the oil lines. Just zip tie them at the radiator since you don't use factory fans.

Factory routing for the lines are tucked up well into the truck. Don't believe you'd ever snag them on anything. I am about opposite to your predicament. The lines and thermo came with my 6.0 but the 34" radiator I put in didn't have an oil cooler.

Creederado (used to post here all of the time) bought a 34" rad that came with the oil cooler ports in the radiator that he didn't use and he just plugged them off. You really could just leave them open as nothing will leak out of there, but then you might get some junk in the ports. Plastic or rubber plugs will suffice, or brass or even plastic threaded plugs are a little cleaner looking.

As Roger mentioned, if you do decide to install the oil cooler the lines are tucked up enough that they won't snag anything.
