Default Oil filter question

Just changed the oil and went with the PureOne Purolator filter, but was wondering about a larger filter. Found that the 03-pre 5.3L engine used a PF59? but then found this quote and didnt find a good answer to it.

So is this true?

What filter do you guys run?

46 is fine OP. If your changing your oil regularly you wont ever exceed its capacity.

What are your "regular" changes? I'm pretty new to the LS series, been into the Buick 3800s for my last couple of vehicles. Those were very easy on oil. Have heard the same about the LS. I just went with the oil life indicator this time but the oil was pretty black. And I am trying that Valvoline NextGen oil. Going to get an oil analysis done around 4-5k miles when I change it next. Its been an ongoing debate on the Bonneville forum i also belong to.

on my '04 i run the filter that the 4.2L in the trailblazers call for...carquest number is an 85522, it's the same diameter as the regular one our trucks call for but almost twice as tall, fits all the gen III ls engines 4.8-6.0...the CQ blue line filters are made by wix i believe. anyway haven't had any issues and i like the idea of having a larger filter and more oil circulating. plus it takes a full 6 quarts without being over full so i have no more partial quarts floating around. i mostly use Mobil1 oil for no reason other than i like it.

Ditto the PF61E has a drain back valve in it if your worried about that aspect, plus the PF61 has like 35% more holding capacity then the PF46

3-5k miles is fine. Keep an eye on the indicator though, I have seen them go too long between changes.
