Default Oil Level Sensor???

I was changing my oil today, and while the oil was draining I got in the truck and turned the key to run to see the milage for my log. Obviously the oil was low (draining). Then I finished everything, filter and 6 qts of oil, but now when I start my truck, it says "Check Oil Level". On the dipstick it is right in the middle of the operating range. Nothing leaking, and I put the right amount in. Question: Could it be that the oil level sensor read it was low when I was checking the milage, and stored a code that must be deleted? I don't want to drive it until I get this fixed, although the ~1 mile did drive it, it ran just like normal.

If I had to hazard a guess,I'd say it stored a low oil level code that needs to be reset somehow. The only one I know how to reset is the 'change engine oil' message with the five cycles of the gas pedal. Someone will chime-in who knows.

It won't hurt you to drive it. It's got enought oil in it ( you put it there yourself).

Disconnect the battery and hook it back up - see if that helps you out any.

I left my key on when I did an oil change once and the same thing happened. After I drove it and cycled the key again, the light went off.

Battery or gas pedal clear for the oil message, either will do.
Like my father always asked, are you SURE?!? On the millionth time he asked me the filter was shoddy and puked oil all over the driveway. Needless to say I did not smart off to him for awhile on that one...
