Do you know if you really got a walbro pump, apparently there is some company in China that makes fuel pumps to look like the walbros, but there crap, they even have the correct stamp on the side of the housing.

The sock is detachable from the bottom of the pump is it not? I've always thrown away the sock whenever doing any pump swap on any vehicles of mine. That's what the inline filter is for Granted I've never had to replace a pump on my silverado so I don't know if its necessary or not

Yes the sock is removable, as I have none on the intank pump now. But i would think that if the pump would happen to pick up any dirt from the bottom of the tank if there would be any in there, it could hurt, or kill the pump..

Yes it wouldn't take much trash to kill the pump, you need the sock but you need a space between the floor of the tank and the sock too.

could you not insert something into the sock to hold it open? I know I have heard of people having there air filter collapse and had to make something to keep it open. Just a thought man.

It actually didn't collapse, but slid up the fitting, to where the bottom of the fitting was sitting right on the bottom of the sock, only allowed it to suck thre a small part..

Why dont you just notch your bucket a little more and move the pump up in the bucket? You could also recut and flare the rods on the bucket so it did not sit on the bottom of the tank.

don't know if you fixed the problem......but a pump sock from a 5.0 mustang will work with the Walbro pumps and is available at most auto parts stores. Has a plastic skeleton inside the sock to prevent blockage
