Default Overheating problems with A/C on

Hey guys I'm having some issues with my truck running hotter than I would like. With the ac on, the coolant will average between 215-225 driving through the city. If I turn the ac off it will cool back down to 205 or so. I'm running flex-a-lite efans wired to run on high all the time.

When the coolant is running hot, I always hear a weird noise coming from under the hood. It only happens right after a shift. Sometimes it's after the 1-2 shift but most of the time it's right after the 2-3 shift. It makes a pppssshhh sound like compressed air. Sounds exactly like hooking up an air gun to the compressor line. It's just a short pppssshhh. Also this only happens when the ac is on. I thought it was the pressurized coolant system leaking but since I noticed its only with the ac on, i guess it must be coming from the compressor?? Any ideas?

Those efans may not be moving enough air for you. What temp t-stat are you running? You may be able to compensate with a cooler thermostat.

x2 I would look into a 160* stat and some waterwetter if you dont have already.

Hmmm, is your compressor on the way out? Man its hard to diagnose over the web .

Another dumb question but is your radiator-A/C condensor dirty or plugged restricting airflow?

The damn compressor was bought brand new less than a year ago. But it has only been used for the past two months or so. I don't know how it could be going out already but the problem is definitely something in the A/C system. Once I turn the ac off, it doesn't ppppsssshhh anymore. I can feel it in the pedal when it happens. Almost like it puts some kind of load on the motor. Maybe the compressor locks up for a second when it cycles on or off.???

I'm pretty sure I have a 34" radiator. The inside core measures about 29" but from end to end of the radiator, it's 34".

That's a 28" radiator.

That noise you describe sounds like your compressor clutch slipping. If your engine will run at thermostat temp with ac off it should run only slightly higher with ac on.
Is this a new over temp problem or has it been hot since day one. I do not use aftermarket electric fans here in Texas, I just haven't had good luck with them. They just don't produce the air flow over entire core of the radiator.
PM me and I can send you a good guide to troubleshoot with.

Damn well I guess having a 28" radiator is good news. Looks like I'll be able to get a handle on this with the bigger core. What price do you guys think could score a radiator and efans for?

Where should I be looking for radiators and efans? I saw that LKQ had some in my area for $325 total. Is that a good price?
