Performance help for a Caviler...don't make fun.
alright, my friend wants some gains on his late model Caviler. What would be some reasonable priced upgrades on it. I told him to start with CAI and exhaust. Forced Induction is too expensive for this guy, so I'm not sure what to tell him. I don't know much about the small motor, ricer world. Just some suitable small gains would PROBABLY make this guy happy. Thanks

On a limited budget, it would be best to hit a website for the car and see if people have any home brew stuff.
Intake and exhaust is a given. A small motor like that, a tune up and make sure everything is in good shape, can make a big difference.
A cheap and easy performance mod, is look at things to lighten the car. Some small cars like light weight wheels. Hit the online classifieds and see if you can find light weight wheels. I stuck some light weight wheels on the ex's car, didn't turn it into a smoking beast, but you could tell a difference over factory wheels, especially, stopping
There is alot that can be done, but doing stuff within a tight budget can prove difficult.
If he really wants to go fast, strap the car on a trailer and pull him around behind your truck. He can rev the motor up and pretend his is driving.

Yep. any engine draw on the small motors really take their toil.
I'd get rid of anything I didn't need. You don't need power steering when your turning a tire 4 inches wide. Ditch it and go manual!
