Picked up new ride - 04 Z71 Avalanche
I picked up an Avalanche last week. I found one that was in great shape, but had lots of highway miles on it. I've always wanted an Avalanche and I couldn't pass this one up. I'm going to use it as a 2nd vehicle and 'something bigger than the TBSS' ride. I have just over $7K in it and am really happy with it. Plus its BLACK! Details:
2004 Z71 Avalanche LS
5.3 / 4L60E w/ Autotrac
285x70x17 BFG all terrains
Hydroboost brakes
Graphite cloth interior
Carfax was clean, never wrecked
186K miles - all highway.
It shows 3340 hours run time, so the vehicle averaged over 55MPH from day one!!! 55mph average over 5 years factoring in traffic, city driving, fast food stops, gas stations, stop lights, etc.. is amazing.
Exterior is in super shape. I found one dime sized ding. Front bumper is perfect, rear has one little crease by the license plate from a trailer. Just a few scuffs, but several rock chips in the hood. Needs a really good detail job. Interior is great for the miles. Non smoker. Only drivers seat shows any wear, everything else is perfect. 5.3L runs good and trans shifts well. 7" DVD in the rear. Looking it over, it has a brand new transfer case, brand new hydroboost setup, and looks like a fairly new water pump.
I think I'm going to have to dig into the dash wiring and check a few things out. The PO had an in-dash DVD and probably an aftermarket alarm that was removed. I saw a couple of codes when scanning the BCM about cluster dimming and airbag.
I have a spare LQ9 and 112 Radix... I keep having thoughts about a quick swap.
I've put 400+ miles on it this week. Honestly, it may get better MPG than the TBSS.

My AV got close to 20 mpg with 3.73's and 17 mpg with 4.10's....my TBSS got 12.8 mpg.
The AV is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned. I drove San Diego to Portland in 17 hours with just a couple of stops, and it was awesome. You're gonna love it.

The Av was a recent trade vehicle. Not a full dealership, just one of those small specialty places that have 10-15 cars.
I bought a 2003 'work truck' from my company last month. It was a V6 fleet vehicle with 212K miles. It wasn't in horrible shape, but it was definitely well used. I used that truck as a trade in on the Avalanche and came out +$1500 on that trade. Thats how I'm in the Av so cheap. Otherwise, it would be just over $9K after TTL.

My modded TBSS with TVS gets about 15 average. Looks like the Z71 Av may get 16+ average.
What size gas tank does the Av have? I filled it with almost 29 gallons today.
