Default Please help.. Why does my TB look like it caught fire?

I just got around to taking my throttle body off to clean and port it and the back of the blade looks like it has spent the last year in a forest fire. Is this normal or is this a sign that something may be up?

EGR makes it dirty. I've cleaned mine 4 times in a year.
I will delete it when my HPTuner arrives.

when taking the TB off, do you need to replace the gasket?

If there is a gasket usually always replace it.

The TB has an "o" ring like gasket. as long as it doesn't tear and looks in good condition you can reuse it. I have not replaced mine yet.

Correct, no gasket on the TB and the forest fire deposits are the EGR gases.

The gasket on mine stayed in place on the manifold and looked good so I left it. It took me quite some time to get it clean. I used soapy water and a toothbush, scrubber, and even a flathead screwdriver!!! Im just now going to get started on the porting. Wish me luck!!
I still cant believe how bad it looked behind the blade. It was unbelievable!
