Talking poor mans intercooler

dont shoot me down just yet!
i was bored last night after i got through puttin new belts on my friends '93 eclispe.
i was thinking, behind my bumper ther is a good bit of space.
what if i built a box out of thin metal and have a thin peice of metal running through the box. and then fill the box with ice, have a spout running straight up. so to fill the box up you can pop the hood and there is the cap?
and have a NOS or FUEL soln. attached to the bottom of the box? so to drain the water all you would have to do is just hit a switch?
run a ramair set up from the driverside towhook opening in the airdam and through the "icebox" then to the airbox?
sorry i was bored and the thought poped in my head
tell me what you think??
im goin to try it just for laughs.
i like to weld also.

i dont see how this would help unless you had some sort of forced induction cause without it the ram air effect wont start working till you get up to speed. but you never know it could be a good idea

im goin to try to run 2hoses from both towhook openings to the "icebox" then enclose my FIPK so it should ram onto the filter?

well it will ran air into the box but it wont start doing it till like 40-50mph. then im not sure if the cooling effect will really help out a non FI vehicle. worth a shot though i guess

im goin to do it and see what happens? why not i got time to waste.
i had a fan blowing on the front of the truck because it was hot and humid last night. and when i was routing the hose i could feel some air coming out the end. and the fan aint all that big. so hopefully with 2hoses it should be better??
i stay bored a lot so this should help?
Thanks

I dont think it'll work any better (if at all), then a air tube with fliter in a good location. With all the additional piping and stuff, it may even make it worse. And having a nitrous solenoid to drain water will eventually burn out because of the heat it creates by staying open. When nitrous passes throught the solenoid, it cools it. Also, I think by the time the "cold air" reaches to your throttle body, it will be warmed back up to normal "non intercooled" air.

Then your ice will melt in 30 minutes and have a box full of warm water.

Not trying to dog your project, but I think you can use your time for somthing more useful.

thats what im talking about.
i didnt know that the solenoids created heat. Thanks for lettin me know.
the solenoid was a good idea though, wasnt it. that way you can drain the water and never get out??
im goin to try it and see what happens. hopefully the air wont heat up to much by the time it gets to the motor??
but i understand what you are saying.
Thanks!
any more opinions??
yall can dog this if you want. it was just a thought.
