Default port on back of manifold?

Sorry for the newbish question. I tried searching but didn't know what to call the thing.

What is the port used for on the back of the truck manifolds?

Yeah its something like $4 at the dealer or you can find one in a junkyard.... Or if you have vacuum brakes, pull it out of your intake
