Only when turning left...

Where is the noise coming from? PS pump, belt, hydraulic lines? Maybe the worm gear in the gear box is on it's way out. Mine took a poop a few weeks ago, and although I didn't get any noise as a warning, I lost all power assist when turning left only...turning right was fine. (would've been great if my truck was a Nascar Craftsman truck lol )

not sure...
and I guess that I should say, ashamed as I am, that this is not a recent occurence. It has done this as long as I can remember.
I read awhile back that there was a Tech Service Bulletin in regards to something like this, never a recall, just a TSB in case a customer brought one in, they would replace the pump under warranty. By the time I read that, I was out of warranty.
It's never really increased or decreased in volume or frequency.
And in regards to my lack of Power Steering maintenance, please view the following:

Its most likely the pump. I have 99 silverado that has had 2 go bad. The last one the shaft snaped in half. Its a bit of the PITA to get to and replace but I havent had any problems since. The replacement pump that the shaft snaped was a little over a year old and my local parts shop swaped it out for a new even though warrenty was up.

Had a similar problem with my 2000 Silverado and the dealership replaced the rack and steering shaft.

We change the gear boxes for a noise in one direction. If it does it in both directions it is the pump... just my .02

Well, finally decided to change PS fluid...using a syringe, I removed the old 184k mile original fluid replacing it w/ the expensive Lucas Oil product.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
took a few miles of driving and turning, but no more noise at all...is it just covering something up or prolonging an inevitable failure of something...who knows?

Sounds like you might have nailed it...I've noticed that ps fluid is one of the fluids that doesn't get the proper attention like the other major fluids do (I'm guily of this myself, and recently had to replace my steering gear box because of it). A periodic ps fluid flush is always a good idea...as well as yearly to 18 month brake fluid flushes (another overlooked fluid)
