pbraxton just got his truck back from GM after raising hell over this.

They put a new rack on it, didn't squeel for a week or two.

They then sent him the service bullentin which told him to "live with it - it's normal"

He raised enough hell that they installed a new rack again and used some extreme cold climate fluid to fill it up. So far it's not squeeled.

This was on a 2005 CC 1500, only squeeled when turning left. The service bulletin they sent him before showed the fault to be a redesigned valve in the rack.

3 racks later, lots of hell raising, and p/s fluid part #12345866 finally did the trick!

yeah they gave me this nice little bulletin telling me that it was inherent to the vehicle. B/S. so i rode with it for a few months and then i had finally had enough. all i know is the bulletin tells you the squeal is fluid moving through the spool valve in the rack and pinion after the fluid heats up. there is a new part that supposedly they put in the second time but that didnt fix it. so this last time GM techline told them to order the rack brand new and use that fluid and finally i have no probs.

I agree...and I was guilty on the PS fluid...184k guilty...
and the coolant...I flushed it and replaced it this weekend as well...amazingly though, no debris or discoloration when drained...
did the brakes when I upgraded rotors and went with steel braided lines a couple of years ago...
did the transmission about a year and a half ago too...no flush!...fresh fluid only...takes a few extra quarts of ATF to do this with the "dialysis" machines, but well worth it in the long run...heard too many horror stories about never having any tranny problems until after a flush for me to do it that way.
