I have an 84 1/2 ton 2wd and I'm wanting to update my drivetrain to a newer LSx style engine. Is this a pretty straight forward swap like just get it in and bolting up the computer and hooking up wires or is there a lot of custom wiring and mocking to do?

When you get the engine get the wiring harness and computer also. Send the harness to Speartech, tell them what you are putting it in and they will do the rest. It will be just plug and play then. I helped do one in a 58 truck and it was easy.

Ok, so it's pretty much like I thought then, there'll be wires I won't use, so they'll have to be taken out? I imagine I'll probably run a new tranny also for the OD gear, I will have to upgrade to new guages then, won't I?

and what kind of fuel mileage should I expect out of a 6.0L/4 speed auto/3.73 rears?

You can actually run aftermarket electronic guages and tachs off the factory pcm. You just need to let Speartech know and then you will need someone familiar with tuning to scale the outputs from the pcm.
