So had you bought a custom tune instead of the hypertech, how would they have compared mod for mod, this meaning the ram using the hand held since no custom tune is availible? Now that yours is broke in how the mileage in comparison?Does the guy you sold yours to still have the Y2K

Man, that's hard to say. The first programmer on my Silverado was an HPP so as it stands now, the Ram has the same three mods (intake, exhaust and HPP) as the Silverado did when it ran a 15.21.. I'm sure with a custom tune, the Silverado would have been quicker, so it may be about the same as the Ram is now. Last night I did two of my usual 0-60 stop watch runs and they were pretty quick, 6.11 and 6.17 seconds. When I ran my 15.24 at the track, the 0-60 times were in the 6.5-6.6 range, so I really think I can crack the 14's next time at the track. If I do, the Ram is definitly quicker than the Silverado was with the same three mods.

LOL! The mpg sucks in the Ram around town, only get 11.5-12.5 mpg, the Silverado would get 13.5-14.5 mpg. The freeway is alot closer, I have gotten 18-19 mpg in the Ram which is about the same as the Silverado.

I didn't sell it, I traded it in. I actually saw it about three months ago sitting on a side street in front of an medical building about 4 miles from my house, first and last time.

Not to hijack but Y2K or anyone familiar with Edit or HPT could you take a look at this link and tell me if the piggyback system for the Dodge Ram has promise?

It looks very good to me but I could use a second opinion. Not as powerful as HPT or Edit but it's a start. Could be just the thing for the turbo tuning...

Nice runs, I actually just ordered some new Plates, HEMIKLR. Now lets just see if it gets through the "approval" stage. Those Hemi's are pretty cool, it's a shame they just weigh so much. I can't wait to have a run in with a Hemi.

Dang, GhettoTy, your plate could read ***KLR with that Syclone! At least anyone not in the know about those turbo charged terrors, especially with your additional mods.

Well, I have no direct experience with DC's products, but based on what I've read, I think this is most promising, at least in the short term. Not as capable as LS1-Edit or HPTuners, but will certainly allow a lot more to be done than can be done now.

The only potential fly in the ointment is that DC's PCM seems to be adaptive, i.e. it appears to sense when something has been messed with, and then detunes the engine back to stock performance. But maybe this unit will not have that issue.

As for cracking the code, from what I've read, this is not likely, at least anytime soon. DC apparently uses an X-BOX type security system where all off-board memory images are encrypted, with the encryption algorithm embedded in the CPU die. The X-Box is similar, except Microsoft made one fatal goof. To save costs, they used a standard CPU, and put the encryption algorithm in the video controller, which had custom ASIC on it anyway. They then hoped people wouldn't notice when they sneaked the algorithm across the video bus to the CPU during boot-up. People noticed, and the rest is history. Apparently DC learned from MS's gaffe and put the algorithm on the CPU die, where it is nearly impossible to access.

I think the eventual long term solution will be a stand alone replacement EMS such as the one offered elsewhere on that site, and by other firms.
